President Barack Obama combined a vigorous defence of his controversial use of drones with a no less impassioned demand for the closure of the notorious prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which he called “a symbol around the world for an America that flouts the rule of law.” In a sweeping public reassessment of the evolving threat facing the US, Mr Obama directly addressed two of the most controversial aspects of the country's "war on terror": the use of armed unmanned drones to pre-emptively kill suspected militants thousands of miles from America's borders; and the future of Gitmo, where some inmates have been held without charge or trial for more than 11 years. EUR-EGP over the last 5 years:

Some notes:

The unit for Egypt currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). 1 EGP = 100 piasters. Notes are in denominations of EGP 200, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 1, 50 piasters and 25piastres. Coins are in denominations of 50 piasters and 1 EGP.

Two interesting peculiarities of Egypt currency are that each note is written in two languages, Arabic and English, and that the smaller the note denomination, the smaller its physical size. The Arabic side of the note has engravings of architecturally and historically important mosques. The English side depicts the legacy of Ancient Egypt, with engravings of figures, statues and temples.

Currency exchange is available at Banks, Exchange offices, Hotels and ATM machines according to the current exchange rate.  Banks often have better exchange rates than Exchange offices or Hotels. All common international currencies are accepted. The import and export of foreign currency is unlimited. The import of local currency is unlimited. The export of local currency is prohibited.

Is advisable to change the foreign currency directly in Egypt and not prior arrival in order to get a better rate and to avoid extra bank fees. Moreover is better to change little amount per time. Local currency can be withdrawn by credit card or international ATM card from any ATM machine.

American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa are accepted, but generally only in hotels or big restaurants. You may avoid additional exchange rate charges by using traveler's cheques in US Dollars, Euros or Pounds Sterling.

One-five pound note is a good tip for service. Be careful not to confuse the piasters notes with the Pound notes when you receive rest money back.

Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport
(IATA: SSH,ICAO), formerly known as Ophira International Airport, is an international airport located in Sharm el-Sheikh, just at 20 min. drive from Naama bay.
Opened on May 14, 1968, the airport was originally an Israeli Air Force base and also served the small settlement of Ofira, before the territory was returned to Egypt following the Camp David Accords.
On May 23rd 2007, the airport's second terminal was inaugurated with a capacity for 8 million passengers per year. The two-level 43,000 m2 terminal features 40 check-in counters and is designed to cater to a large number of international and chartered flights. It has two domestic and six international gates, all of which exit to remote stands. The terminal comprises three building components: two circular-shaped halls fused together by a wedge-shaped intermediate space dubbed 'the boat'. 'The boat' serves as a passenger transit hub housing passport control, duty free, and VIP areas as well as cafes/restaurants. The halls, in stark textural contrast to the solid mass of 'the boat', feature airy, billowing tent-like roofs inspired by the indigenous Beduin culture. (source Wikipedia)
The new terminal is "Terminal 1" and the old one is "Terminal 2".
From Terminal 1 are departing and landing all the scheduled flight, while Terminal 2 accomodate all the charter flights.
To enter the Airport, either for terminal 1 or 2, there is a charge of L.E.5 that is paid at the exit gate.
At terminal 1 is located the duty free where alcoholic beverages can be purchased up to 48 hours upon arrival. The quantity allowed is 1 crate of beer and 2 bottles of any items available.

Some notes:

Rain is hardly ever seen in Sharm. Very occasionally it can be cloudy. When talking about the Sharm weather, the most important factor to take in account is the wind, most of the time from nord or nord-west.

Because the north coast (the Nabq area above the airport) is more exposed, resulting in pretty high waves, this area is less indicated for activities like snorkeling and diving, but fine for wind and kite surfing. Also the other areas can get higher waves when the wind occasionally turns more to the east.

If you tend to get seasick easily, go on boat trips only with wind speeds of 3 Bft or less, or go to the local sites on windy days instead of Tiran or Ras Mohammed. You can also ask for some preventive medication.

There is no air humidity at all, but the evenings can be chilly even in spring and autumn. There are no trees to retain the heat of the day, so it cools down quickly when the sun goes down. Take always some extra clothes with long sleeves having dinner out- or inside (air conditioning) or a wind jacket on the boat. Water temperatures vary from 20°C in winter time to 29°C in summer.

Make sure you have high factor sun cream, sun glasses and a cap, even in winter time.

Last but not least, drink enough water. Dehydration is the main cause for getting the bends (decompression sickness) when scuba diving, besides the heat also due to tummy problems. Always make sure you have a bottle of water with you. Don't drink water from the tap. Against diarrhea and stomach cramps use the local medicine. They are most indicated to fight the local bacteria. The pills you bring from home mostly only work temporarily. The traces of bacteria that remain, develop again later on.
